“After having attended some workshops with Alan Dunn and Makiko Searle and a five-day course at the Squires Kitchen International School last June, I started to move into new sugarcraft techniques. I decided to turn my passion for paper craft creations into cakes, and I am approaching the sugarcraft world with new techniques like origami and kirigami.
I am a huge fan of oriental culture and my cakes are often inspired by Japanese paper art. I make all templates by hand and cut them out from paper, following genuine origami and kirigami techniques. The flowers are based on a five-point star paper flower and the mini cakes represent the Emperor Odairi-sama and the Empress Ohina-sama, which are related to the Japanese hinamatsuri or doll festival.
Displaying my cakes on the International Display Table at Squires Kitchen’s 26th Exhibition in March was a challenge and an amazing experience for me. Travelling from Italy with these works was a real adventure!”
